At the same time the Ipswich Rotary Club of Queensland with TRF assistance provided a school bus to Latvia, while the Townsville Sunrise Rotary Club was attempting to bring a Latvian teacher to Queensland to attend university there.

US$ 500 goes a long way to assist a student to study in Latvia.
Latvia is a poor country and even this modest amount is of great help.
Your contribution will be administered by Rotary, and the recipient will be decided by Latvian Rotarians under supervision of PDG Gunnar Grantiger of Vadstena (Dist 2410) the Rotary Club of Kumeu NZ D 9910 has offered to administer the scheme.

Help for the Disadvantaged?
Housed in Kuldiga castle is the school for intellectually disadvantaged children. Here teachers live with their pupils 7 days of the week. They teach basic skills to the boys, how to farm, and girls are taught basic tasks and duties of a farmers wife. It is the aim to make the pupils live a normal useful life in latvias rural life .
The evidence of lack of money is abundant. Woodden baths and kerosene cans for toilet facilities, all scrupulously clean.
What a dream of a project for a Rotary Club which had US$5,000 to spare and sent a team of members to refurbish the place…
Gladly precisely this sort of thing is happening in Eastern Europe as I learn from Dutch Rotary.
