WHY I AM A ROTARIAN
By Carlos CansecoCarlos Canseco Gonzalez (medicine -allergy).
President, Rotary International, 1984-85.Member of the Rotary Club of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Theme: "Discover a New World of Service."
I am a Rotarian because a member of the Monterrey club of Mexico felt that my professional status in the community distinguished me as a candidate for membership in a Rotary club.
In joining the Rotary Club of Monterrey, I accepted the responsibility of being a Rotarian, just as I had earlier accepted the responsibility of being a doctor: that is, I firmly committed myself to active participation in every opportunity for service offered by a Rotary club. Since that time, I determined to achieve the Object of Rotary by utilizing the vehicle (the Rotary club) that would give me access to the community and enable me to place the benefits of the Object of Rotary within reach of all social strata.
Despite having held office at every level in Rotary International open to the individual Rotarian, my devotion to Rotary is concentrated in active participation in my own club, and I believe that the sole reason I came to hold the position of President lies in my efforts on the club plane. For as long as I feel the need to participate in the life of my community as a member of the Rotary Club of Monterrey, I shall remain a member.
I have faith in Rotary's future as the organization that will eventually give the world a just and lasting peace.
Why I am a Rotarian
By Thomas A. CardDirector Rotary International, 1965-6 7.
Member of the Rotary Club of Delray Beach, Florida, U. S.A.
I have asked myself why Rotary is important in my life. I think of too many reasons and I have tried to boil all of them down to less than 300 words.
Why is Rotary important in my life?
The simple reason is that Rotary and its principles are the only things in my life, beyond my family, that have been important to me and worthy of deep sacrifice.
That is my boiled-down answer. I cannot enlarge it in any way without exceeding 300 words or leaving out important facts.
