Baptism

I embroider the name Lily Sarah onto the family christening gown, bake and decorate a big cake and choose a song by Graham Kendrick to have at the baptism service.  One verse says,

“For each child is special, accepted and loved, a love gift from Jesus, to His Father above”

We arrive at the church in good time.  Lily does not bring up any milk on the christening gown and the other children don’t fidget.  The simple ceremony is very moving.  We have been through so much in the past three years, since we decided to adopt a baby with Down syndrome, so much heartache and soul searching, disappointments and frustrations.  And it has brought us here with this tiny innocent baby joining our family.

Our beloved daughter Lily has already taught us so much, how much more will we have to learn in the years ahead?

Paul walks to the front of the church and reads the lesson,

“Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”
