Racing
around the Historic Victorian precinct in the town of Oamaru, New
Zealand ( pronounced 'Om-a-roo' ) was reinstated in 1994.
There
have been ten annual tours starting from various parts of New Zealand.
They normally last 4-5 days and have started from such places as Mount
Cook, Queenstown, Dunedin and Wellington. The end of the tour consides
with Heritage week in Oamaru on thursday of that week so there is a
Garden party and Victorian Ball one can attend if the legs are still up
to it. On Saturday there is racing for the cycles around the Historic
precinct. On Sunday there are novelty events as part of the Victorian
fete which is run by the Oamaru Whitestone Civic Trust.
The OOCC
now has clubrooms and bicycle museum based in the Historic area on the corner of Wansbeck and Harbour streets.
