Welcome to Mainelymagic Maine Coons and Polydactyl Maine Coon Cats

Mainelymagic is a small boutique in-home breeding cattery. We have a small number of cats and they are part of our family.

Alongside the usual Maine Coons we breed polydactyl Maine Coons for people who love the quirky look of those extra toes. Click here for info on polydactyls.

We have selected our cats so that we can breed a huge range of colours and patterns including silvers, browns, reds, creams, blues as well as solids and smokes.

We take great pride in breeding healthy cats with friendly affectionate personalities, perfect as family pets.

Our cats come from long lines of tested ancestors. That is:
* hips xrayed
* clear of the gene that may cause one form of heart problem
* scanned regularly for other heart diseases.

We believe in transparency and openness and our cats' health records are available to buyers, and their histories are on their pages for all to see.

In addition to this we have invested much effort into creating a disease free cattery. This includes cat flu's, corona virus, panleukopenia virus, giardia and ringworm. Before entering the house new cats have to be veterinary tested clear of these transmittable diseases.

This all means that we have to the best of anyone's ability kittens that are as healthy as anyone can make them.

We also select breeding cats for their temperament first, and while some of our cats do well at shows, we do not select solely for show type at the expense of other attributes.

It has been brought to our attention that there are breeders who state that they test but don't. Please make sure you ask to see the test results of the parents and preferably the grandparents. Help improve the breed - insist you buy a kitten from parents who are tested and are clear for any possible health problems. (This applies to all breeds of cats, not just Maine Coons)

Mainelymagic Maine Coon featured this month is:

Mainelymagic Little Flower Girl (Molly) Jazz/Tailer born 12/5/10. Molly's "'sister" Alli is another Maine Coon girl (Diggie/Itsy born 11/1/07). Their mum Trudie is a fan of Maine Coon girls!

"I was reading your blurb on the front page of your website on the weekend and I can’t believe that female Maine Coons are not as popular as the males. Personally we have always had female cats (and I grew up with female cats) and I think they are such gentle natured creatures who are so affectionate and just love to be with you. I would love to have more!

Molly is doing so well, she is getting on with everybody now and her and Alli have become the best of friends. They are either constantly running through the house chasing each other (and Alli has been really patient with her), are sitting together at the door watching the birds or asleep in their beds next to each other.

We weighed Molly last night and she is now just on 4kg at 6 months. (Alli is 8kgs). Molly has a real healthy appetite and we have no problems with her being fussy with her food. Usually we have to try and keep her away from the other cat’s food :-) She loves to play and is becoming very affectionate. She has learnt where her food gets prepared and will rub around your legs as you are preparing it.

Her colours are really starting to come through now and even though she didn’t have a lot of ginger showing in her fur when she was younger, this colour is now starting to show. I just love her colours and her big front paws. She also has a really loud purr just like Alli and it is so neat to hear them purring together.
