This train covers part of the early rail route that was opened in 1880s to provide access to Central Otago. This section passes through dramatic the Taiei River Gorge. The trip helps illustrate the difficulties faced in opening up this rugged country.

This historic town house was built for one of Dunedin wealthy businessmen in 1904. It was gifted to the city with its original contents when the last member of the family died in 1966. | Larnach Castle |
Larnach was a wealthy businessman/banker who made money in the goldfield of Australia. He moved to Dunedin and build this amazing stately home on the Otago Peninsula in the 1870's.
