Some possible questions

In order to know what is NEW, we also have to know about what is OLD.

These web sites will help you to find out about music in the past and present.

Classical Music

Capistrano School - this site has LOTS of useful information on it and links to other sites as well.

Dallas Symphony Orchestra - this site has a LOT of different things you can do and find out about on it. You might find the page about the different eras of music very interesting, and there are lots of musical activities for kids to do on the KIDS ONLY page.

You might find the Hyperhistory web site useful, if you click on CULTURE and then MUSIC. When you click on a composer, and look at the right hand side of the screen, then you may find useful links to follow about that composer.

Classical Music

Folk Music

Different countries have their own music, and NEW ZEALAND is no exception. You can learn about the songs of NZ on the following sites,

Kiwifolk

New Zealand Folk Song (there's a link on this page for teachers which categorises the NZ songs into topics)

The Maritime Crew - a group singing old and new songs about the sea. (If we ask Jude to talk to Lew VERY nicely we might be able to get them to come and sing to us!)

American Folk Music

Music Webquests - suitable for groups or individuals to work on as a reading/homework activity. Quality is variable, but I've picked the best ones available.

Teen Music Webquest

The Mozart Connection

The Jazz Era

Brass Family Instruments

Styles and Genres - cooperative group activity

Musical Instruments

Trackstar - Trackstar is a site with which you can create a collection of websites for children to look at. It's a bit like the Kete function on TKI. On this site you can put in a keyword (such as Music) and find tracks that other teachers have created for their classes, or you can create a new track for your own students with your own annotations. Students could create a Track for other students to use!

If anyone knows any other good links, please them to me so I can put them on this page.

Once we know about what is OLD, and what is NEW, then we can COMPARE and CONTRAST the music, the musicians and the reasons we play music. We could also make a TIMELINE about the development of music. Then of course, we can be CREATIVE and ORIGINAL and think about what we can create that's NEW!!!!
