Where do you start ?

A good garden design is usually the result of good planning. The first step to planning a garden for you is to work out what you want.
Make a map of your garden as it is now including the house, boundaries, shrubs, services, (e.g water, gas, sewerage, electricity   and telephone cables) and other features.
Be exact as possible.
Use graph paper, and choose a scale eg. 10mm = 1 metre. Draw everything on your plan to scale. Draw trees to scale as circles showing the width of the canopy and a small dot in the centre for the trunk. This will show that you can plant around the trunk.
Make a note of where the midday sun is.
Where is your clothesline? Has it been planted in the middle of your lawn in full view of the lounge? It needs to be in a convenient place, but out of site.
