The audience in almost any carnatic music concert anywhere in the world is almost entirely the performers, their family and friends, committee members and a few senior citizens. The audience is often not listening but doing other things. Even the performers and their family leave soon after their own performance is over.
If we (yes, those of us who enjoy good carnatic music) do nothing more than brag about the golden era of carnatic music and carry on doing things the way we are doing things at present, carnatic music will slowly but surely fade into oblivion.
Balachander's Tamil film Sinthu Bhairavi should be an eye opener for us all.
I have been working on several projects aimed at rejuvenating carnatic music. Your views, suggestions, and support will be appreciated
