The Mouth of the Hutt Valley
The mouth of the Hutt ValleyBelow is the Hutt River emptying out into Port Nicholson with the Seaview industrial area and a marina on this side of the river. On the other side of the river there is the Petone Foreshore curving away over to the far hills, (NB. Petone is pronounced pe-to-ne rather than pet-one). In the middle of the beach is the Settlers Museum - this marks the spot where the first European settlers landed. The main settlement soon moved from the exposed beachfront to the more sheltered location across the harbour.
