|Looking down the Hutt Valley towards Wellington from the
southern end of the Marchant Ridge - this is a distance of about 40 kilometres.
The bare tree trunks are the remains of a fire in 1938 - only a 1000 more years
and you will barely notice it. The green fields below are the farms around
Kaitoke with further farmland on The Plateau beyond. Upper Hutt city starts in
the Hutt Valley to the right. The valley stretches past Lower Hutt to
Wellington Harbour (Port Nicholson) - the blue patch before the hills on the
horizon that shelter Wellington.
