|Wellington from Alpha in the Tararua Ranges|
|You will have to take my word that Wellington is somewhere in
the haze on the horizon. The ridge extending before you is the Quoin Ridge,
leading to Quoin (1206m) and then the Hutt Forks where the Western and Eastern
Hutt Rivers meet. This used to be a common route into the Tararuas until it was
included into a water catchment area (entry by permit only).
To the left of the ridge, you can see the top of the Hutt Valley with the houses of Upper Hutt.
This photo and the next one were taken on my Southern Crossing of the Tararuas.
