Crowden: bus service between Manchester and Sheffield passes Crowden-in-Longdendale Youth Hostel. Tel. Manchester (061) 236 2120
Marsden: a train between Manchester and Huddersfield and Leeds stops here several times daily.
Standsedge: bus services between Huddersfield and Oldham (Manchester on Sundays) pass the door of Globe Farm.
Hebden Bridge: frequent weekday train services on the Liverpool-Manchester-Leeds line.
Haworth: the private Worth Valley line connects Haworth with Keighley and a British Rail station.
Cowling: Pinnacle Coaches (tel. 0535 33823) runs a service from Cowling.
Thornton-in-Craven: trains from Colne and Skipton run to Manchester and Leeds. A Pennine Coach service (tel. 075678 215) runs between Colne, Earby and Skipton, calling in at Thornton-in-Craven.
Gargrave: buses to Skipton, Settle and Malham.
Malham: buses to Skipton via Gargrave (tel. 075678 215).
Horton-in-Ribblesdale: bus service to Settle (tel. 07292 3235).
Hawes: bus service to Richmond with connecting buses to British Rail at Darlington. A minibus links Hawes with Garside and BR trains on the Settle/Carlisle line.
Thwaite and Keld: infrequent bus service to Richmond (tel. Darlington (0325) 468771 to check the times).
Bowes: daily weekday bus service to Barnard Castle with an hourly service further on to Darlington.
Middleton-in-Teesdale: infrequent bus service to Darlington (tel. Darlington (0325) 468771).
Dufton: the nearest public transport is at Appleby (5 kilometres away) where there is a station on the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line.
Alston: coaches from Alston to Haltwhistle via Slaggyford and from Alston to Penrith (tel Carlisle (0228) 48484).
Greenhead and Twice Brewed: hourly Carlisle-Newcastle buses through both these places (tel Carlisle (0228) 48484).
Bellingham: Tyne Valley Coaches runs a service to Hexham where you can get a train to Newcastle.
Byrness: a school bus runs to Bellingham and a daily City Link bus stops here between Newcastle and Edinburgh.
Kirk Yetholm: a daily service to Kelso (tel. Kelso (0573) 24141). A service runs from Kelso to Jedburgh with connections to Newcastle and Edinburgh.
