My Homestead Genealogical Indexes Say hi

This is a set of genealogical indexes that I have transcribed from the 1841 British census, covering areas of my interest.

Each Enumeration District (roughly the area that a census taker covered) is in a separate text file. The files are in CSV format and so can be imported into a spreadsheet program to merge them or sort alphabetically. Each file contains the surname and first name of each person in the order that they appeared in the census. The reference and folio number are after the name and these give you the 2 pages in the census where the person was recorded.

Some of the entries or pages in the 1841 census on my CDs were too faint or damaged to read. I have used the following convention: ? is a name that I cannot read; dots denote where only part of a name can be read (e.g. 'H...y') and double quotes where a name is the same as a preceding name that was unreadable, i.e. the census taker has put a "do" for ditto.

I have expanded cases where a name has been abbreviated, e.g. Wm. for William, Jno. for John or Jas. for James.

Please do not ask me for look-ups as I am not doing them.
