FENG SHUI SEMINARS IN SURINAME

Danny’s most recent trip to Suriname was an exciting and productive one, especially from the point of view of expanding local student’s knowledge of traditional, authentic feng shui.

It is a source of great satisfaction to him at a personal level that it is the Feng Shui Academy of New Zealand that has been able to be the first to introduce authentic, traditional feng shui to Suriname, outside the Chinese community.

A public talk was given to a standing room only crowd at the Krasnapolsky Hotel in down town Paramaribo. This was an exceptional result in Paramaribo and very encouraging indeed. Danny spoke to this audience for two and a half hours and many insightful questions from the audience followed the talk.

Due to the diverse nature of Suriname’s population, Creole, Javanese, Bush Negro, Chinese, Hindustani, Jewish, Lebanese, Dutch, English, Korean et al. there is both a wonderful tolerance and an openness to other cultural perspectives in this country. Indeed one well known sight in Paramaribo are the Mosque and Synagogue standing right next to one another. People in Suriname tend to start off with a mind open to diverse ways of looking at life and then like audiences anywhere, become intrigued with the science behind feng shui.

Three intensive weekend seminars followed over the next three weeks with the overwhelming response being that the information provided was not only important to students but very stimulating. “A very, tough but exhilarating course!’ was a frequent comment. Extensive use of case studies allowed the students clear insights into the way in which feng shui actually works and the stress, as always with Danny’s courses, was on the practical application of very complex theories.

New courses are planned for 2003 and with an expanding list of audits performed in Paramaribo’s unique environment, it will be possible from next year forward to start including local case studies for students in Suriname.

The very flat landscape of Paramaribo and other coastal cities of Suriname along with their abundant water ways means that particular form aspects play a very important role in assessing the feng shui of any structure here. This as any serious student of authentic feng shui knows, requires an in-depth knowledge and high level of experience to be able to assess with consistent accuracy.

Future courses will teach students just how to work with this particular kind of environment. As always with any trip to South America, one comes away feeling enriched and stimulated by the diversity of its peoples, the wondrous beauty of the place and especially the accessibility of raw nature in the less urbanised areas.
