With this disc, reading and writing Maori go hand in hand. It has long
been recognised by psychologists that part of our memory is closely associated
with the functioning of the motor nerves, and that carrying out an activity
- such as writing - directly assists the memory of letters and word-outlines.
For many children in the early stages of reading and writing either English or
Maori, the problem has often been inadequate muscular co-ordination for the
production of good-looking writing.
With computer, the problem of muscular co-ordination is usually greatly
reduced. A mere press of the key produces a beautiful letter of the
alphabet every time - and the hidden plus point is this: as your children use
computer to learn to read and write Maori with this disc, they are also
acquiring keyboard skills which may well prove to be an invaluable asset to
them in later life! However, the main thing is the immediate satisfaction and
pleasure which children can derive from finding themselves able to key in
correctly fine-looking Maori words, phrases and sentences related to pictures
they understand. Pleasure and satisfaction lead to the foundation of a
positive attitude towards Maori Language learning!
Full run-instructions are provided on the disc, but once the parent
or teacher has read these through and shown the child how to operate the
program, the disc can later be run WITHOUT the instructions appearing on
screen, especially as a HELP KEY [TAB] plays a major role in this
highly user-friendly software - not only supplying the missing answers when
your child needs them, but also slowing the program down or speeding it up
AUTOMATICALLY to match the child's performance in the program. The basic
structure of each of the nine sections into which the program is divided is
similar, so that once a child has mastered Level 1, INTUITIVE LEARNING soon
comes into play and rapidly enables most young students to progress
to Levels 2, 3, 4, etc., with a MINIMUM of adult help and supervision.
