SCIENCE SUPPPLEMENT
Details of the 10 Programs on This Disc

E-4O) CHEMIST. In the chemical elements (Periodic) table, the elements with atomic numbers from 1 to 34 include many of exceptional importance because of the frequency with which they occur. A knowledge of their names, atomic numbers, and chemical symhols is essential for good progress in any Chemistry studies. This program introduces the student to these elements, their atomic numbers and chemical symbols, and inculcates these by means of an unending random quiz.
E-4l) CHEMIST4. Deals with concepts of molar mass, molar volume, Standard Temperature, Standard Pressure and Avogadro's Law. These concepts are inculcated through three different types of Chemistry problem, with the program generating at random a very large number of problems of each type. The program can be operated either in demonstration mode or in interactive mode - whichever is the more appropriate for the user's current knowledge of Chemistry.
E-42) PHYSICS3. Explores the relationships between force, work, heat, specific heat, and temperature, through a very large number of problems of three different types, which the program generates at random.
E-43) PHYSICS4. This is a program on SOUND. Through a wide range of sound-related Physics problems, it teaches the connections between wave-length, frequency, medium and velocity. Like all the programs on this disc, PHYSICS4 can be operated either interactively or in demonstration mode, as the user prefers.
E-44) PHYSICS5. Often, beginners in Physics find expressions of acceleration and velocity difficult to correlate. This program investigates the relationships between acceleration, velocity, time and distance in simple mathematical terms that most students can quickly learn to handle.
E-45) PHYSICS6. One area which many beginners in Physics find complex is that involving the often apparently tortuous connections between power, work, time, velocity, force and distance. This program aims to remove the mystery from this area and to reduce the matter to essentially simple terms which students can readily understand.
E-46) BIOLOGY. This program studies the percentage of protein, carbohydrate and fats in various common foodstuffs. Biology students will find it relevant to their needs - and many other people too! When operated in interactive mode, this program assesses the student's efforts on completion of each run and indicates the marks he/she has scored.
E-47) BIOLOGY2. The program studies the percentages in which iron, calcium and potassium occur in various common foodstuffs and is therefore of very real interest not only to Biology students, but also to many other people who care to eat well.
E-48) BIOLOGY3. Probably most people nowadays are aware of the enormous importance of Vitamins A, B1 and C, but maybe fewer people could name foods in which these vital nutrients are plentifully available. Nowadays, it is all too easy to go and buy a bottle of those all too often synthetic vitamin tablets! Yet (growing free and wild in many parts of N.Z.!) there is a common salad vegetable which contains more Vitamin C than oranges, more Vitamin B1 than grapes, and more Vitamin A than either grapes or oranges. For anyone who does not know what this vegetable is - and for many Biology students! - this program on VITAMINS A, B1 and C is worth its weight in gold.
E-49) MECH-1. The goal of this program is to impart a working knowledge of the PRINClPLE OF MOMENTS, which is not only of importance for public examinations in Science and Physics, but also for numerous engineering applications.
