DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT THE 15 PROGRAMS OF THE
SPANISH SUPPLEMENT DISC "¡EN ESPAÑOL, POR FAVOR!"
SP-1) SPANISH MILLION. For secondary school students and others in
their FIRST THREE YEARS of the language, this very user-friendly
program makes an ideal tutor and study companion. Operating with a
choice of TEN different levels of difficulty to suit the student's
current state of knowledge, the program can actually create over TEN million
different model sentences of SPANISH with or without translation, as the
user prefers. The sentences are built up from a relatively small
vocabulary, as appropriate for students in their first few years of Spanish.
When the student runs the program in non-translation mode to test progress,
SPANISH MILLION constantly offers to translate any sentence which is
not fully understood and monitors the student's progress in this
respect over each run of ten sentences. The program then makes
various recommendations. In short, it is almost as good as having a real
live Spanish tutor or two at home!
SP-2) SPANTRAN. This program generates random ENGLISH sentences at
pre-selected levels for translation INTO Spanish (from a range of over FIVE
MILLION possible different sentences). Every time the student keys in a
Spanish sentence identical with the model translation generated by the
computer, it plays a few notes of music in acknowledgment. When the
student's Spanish differs from that of the computer, the programmed
translation appears on screen for the student to make comparisons.
Most students (young and old!) learn fast this way; and... is there any teacher
of Spanish who could NOT make good use of this program?
SP-3) SPAN-CAL. Learning the days, months and seasons in Spanish becomes
an easy matter with this practical drill program, which some children
enjoy just as much as if it were a game!
SP-4) S-COUNT. A simple drill in counting in Spanish from one to
one hundred, this program facilitates rapid progress by immediate
audio-visual monitoring of any errors the student may make, plus immediate
visual and auditory confirmation of every correct entry.
SP-5) SP-ADD. For those who seek practice in both Spanish and mental
arithmetic, this program provides the opportunity for both at the same
time. SP-ADD invents simple addition sums at random, presents them on
screen in Spanish, and calls on the student to provide an answer in
Spanish - such as maybe VEINTE. Makes learning fun!
SP-6) SP-MINUS. This program invents minus sums entirely at random,
gives them to the student in Spanish and asks the student to answer in
Spanish. Any student who has mastered the program SP-COUNT (see above)
is ready for both this program and SP-ADD.
SP-7) S-VOCAB. A Spanish vocabulary training program which checks the
student's progress letter by letter and gives instant feedback, S-VOCAB
comes supplied with FOUR standard vocabulary files which contain many of
the words used in SPANISH MILLION, most of which are essential
learning for eventual School Certificate candidates. S-VOCAB also enables
the user to file new lists of Spanish words and their English equivalents
to disc, ready for FURTHER vocabulary drill on the program at any
convenient time!
SP-8) CANTAR. Verbs are the backbone of the Spanish language, and
regular verbs of the First Conjugation are ubiquitous. CANTAR drills
students in the present tense of the First Conjugation.
SP-9) VENDER. This program drills students in the present tense of a
regular verb of the Second Conjugation.
SP-10) DIVIDIR. This program drills students in the present tense of a
regular verb of the Third Conjugation.
SP-11) HABER. Drills students in the present tense of that very
important Spanish verb "haber" - the auxiliary verb "to have".
SP-12) TENER. Drills students in the present tense of that very
important Spanish verb "tener" - the possessive verb "to have".
SP-13) ESTAR. Of all the verbs in the Spanish language, there is
probably none which occurs more frequently than the two verbs "to be". ESTAR
drills students in the present tense of the so-called temporary verb "to be"
and gives helpful hints on when to use it.
SP-14) SER. This program drills students in the present tense of the
so-called permanent verb "to be" and explains how this verb is used.
SP-15) IR. Drills students in the present tense of that indispensable
irregular Spanish verb, IR, the verb to go.
