CAN READ is a highly pictorial program, with sound on board, designed to link together printed words on the monitor screen, spoken words and on-screen visual images, in the average young learner's mind, and it's guaranteed to fascinate most preschoolers - and to arouse their interest in that top-priority objective: learning to read! It will run with CGA, EGA or VGA colour graphics.

Right from the start, the pre-schooler becomes involved in the progress of the program: in order to move on from one picture to the next, even very young children can quickly learn to touch the key for the relevant letter of the alphabet. On being shown a picture of a house and a large letter H, quite young children will quickly learn to touch H for HOUSE in order to progress to the next picture - which (they very soon learn to remember!) is a vivid illustration of an ice-cream.

About eighteen of the pictures featured in the program are ACTION pictures; i.e. the young learner is asked to touch a letter to make something happen within the pictures. In order to induct the early reader into active letter recognition, the program makes very specific requests. The early reader who would like to see the man in the moon suddenly appear in the middle of a large moon drawing - and wave! - must press W for wave. If the young learner wants to start the engine in the picture of a truck, he has to press E for engine. If your child wants to turn on the Xmas lights in the picture of a Christmas tree, then T has to be pressed for tree. The reward for effort is swift, and in this type of situation most children learn fast!

CAN WRITE is a Junior word-processor which puts everything on screen in LARGE LETTERS - so much easier on the young child's eyes! It also prints out in LARGE LETTERS, so that the young user's first stories and essays can he pinned up on the nursery wall big and bold for all to see! Simplicity itself to use, the program turns the computer monitor screen into a blackboard. Alterations and deletions are accomplished with the greatest of ease and - unlike the situation with a school exercise book! - leave no mess. Unlike the situation with the old school slate, all work done can be kept permanently on disc if required - a wonderful diary of a child's progress into literacy!

CAN READ. This colourful early reading program aims at rapid letter recognition by involving the young student interactively in a series of words and pictures.

CAN WRITE. Reading and writing go hand in hand, and the young student who is ready to begin reading can generally gain much from beginning to write at the same time. Yet letter formation often used to be an insuperable problem. Fortunately, this junior word-processor has changed all that and made it possible for Junior to get writing his first stories and letters to relatives at a very early age indeed!

CAN SPELL. This highly pictorial program stimulates active involvement by the young learner in the task of learning to spell - which once seemed like a series of insurmountable obstacles in the way of early writing. With this disc, reading and writing go hand in hand. It has long been recognised by psychologists that part of our memory is closely associated with the functioning of the motor nerves, and that carrying out an activity - such as writing - directly assists the memory of letters and word-outlines. For many children in the early stages of reading and writing, the problem has often been inadequate muscular co-ordination for the production of good-looking writing.
