E-51) STATIST. Aimed at the Statistics section of School Certificate Mathematics, this program serves as an introduction to the use of frequency distribution tables. It can be run in either demonstration mode or interactive mode - whichever best suits the user's current state of knowledge and understanding.
E-52) BINARY. S.C. candidates are expected to have an understanding not only of the ordinary denary system of numeration which we use every day of the week, but also of systems of numeration with bases other than 10. Of these, none could possibly be more important at present than the binary system, used by millions of computers worldwide. The program drills the user in the relationship between the binary and denary number systems, and for any student who has not yet mastered the principles of conversion to and from the binary system but who plans to take Computer Studies later, this very user-friendly item could well prove invaluable.
E-53) CIRCGEOM. Inculcates the methods of calculating the area and circumference of circles, and the area and perimeter of semicircles and quadrants.
E-54) FUNCTION. This fifth- to sixth-form mathematics program introduces students to quite a range of problems in functional notation, which it trains them to solve, a step at a time.
E-55) CUBICEQ. Cubic equations have traditionally been thought of as particularly difficult to solve, and it is therefore not surprising that many people prefer to refer to them by their alternative name: equations of the third degree. This program shows students how to solve these equations the easy way!
E-56) INTEREST. Designed to teach SIMPLE INTEREST, the step-by-step approach of this program is most effective. It's a program which our own children only used a few times, after which they had thoroughly learned how to handle simple interest questions - and never forgot!
E-57) SCINOTAT. Wherever very large or very small numbers crop up - be
it in electronics, chemistry, zoology, or astronomy! - the student must
expect to be confronted with SCIENTIFIC NOTATION. This program is a drill
exercise in converting ordinary numbers to and from scientific notation.
Any student who does not know the value of 1.2573 multiplied by
E-58) TRIANGLE. Deals with the relationship between the external and internal angles of triangles. Considers a large range of triangles at random, and teaches the student how to work out the angles a step at a time.
E-59) EASYTRIG. Designed to introduce the user to the basic facts of Trigonometry, this program concentrates on the problem-solving applications of the three trigonometrical ratios required for the N.Z. School Certificate; viz. sine, cosine and tangent. Remembering which ratio is which and working out which ratio can be used often needs plenty of practice - which is precisely what this program aims to provide!
