_ 1) TAPIRI. For the student who has just begun to learn how to add, this program is a faithful companion that devises at RANDOM simple addition sums for solution by mental arithmetic, carefully monitoring the student's answers at every step - either entirely in Maori, or in Maori plus English, as the user prefers. Help is readily given to students who show recurrent difficulty in remembering the words for any Maori numbers. 2) TANGO. When you are spending money, ability to do take-away sums is often of paramount importance. TANGO devises take-away sums at RANDOM, for solution by Mental Arithmetic, and keeps an unfailingly watchful eye on the student's Maori Language answers. Students who have developed their powers of mental arithmetic with this program will one day make very good shoppers. 3) WHAKARAU. For the student who has already half-way learned his or her times tables, this program devises at RANDOM simple multiplication sums for solution by mental arithmetic, monitoring the student's answers at every step - in a way so efficient that not even the most patient of supervisors could ever hope to equal it. Students get to see the sums laid out in Maori words as well as numbers, and they are asked to key in their answers in Maori words. Percentage scores are shown on screen after every ten sums, so that teachers or supervisors can monitor their students' progress in multiplication. _ _ _ 4) RITUA. For the student who has begun to learn how to divide, the program devises elementary division sums at RANDOM for solution by mental arithmetic, and keeps an unfailingly watchful eye on the student's answers. Like all the programs on this disc, RITUA will run either bilingually or entirely in the Maori Language, at the user's command. 5-8) TE MAHI TAURANGI NAMA 1, 2, 3, 4. (ALGEBRA PROGRAMS 1-4). A generation ago, Algebra seemed an abstruse subject to many non-mathematicians. Computer has changed all that. Utterly indispensable nowadays for anyone at all interested in learning to program computer, Algebra today enjoys a heightened level of importance in our national educational system and is therefore now studied at many New Zealand PRIMARY schools as well as secondary schools. The Bilingual and Total Immersion Maori Language Algebra programs drill students in the solution of simple single-sign algebraic equations. Te Mahi Taurangi Nama 1 deals with equations involving addition; Nama 2 - with equations involving subtraction; Nama 3 - with equations involving multiplication; and Nama 4 - with equations involving division. These Algebra programs can operate (at the user's option), either in pure demonstration mode, or in interactive mode with student involvement in the solution of the equations. With these programs, the computer invents at random a very large number of different equations and guides the student a-step-at-a-time to their solution. _ 9) POROWHA. This program is designed to drill students in the concepts of AREA and PERIMETER as applied to squares and rectangles, and to teach them bilngually (or in Maori only) how area and perimeter can be calculated. 10) POROHITA. Inculcates the methods of calculating the area and circumference of circles, and the area and perimeter of semicircles and quadrants. Like all the programs on this disc, POROHITA will run either bilingually or in Maori alone, at the user's option. Most students will find there is plenty of highly useful Maori vocabulary on board this program for basic geometrical concepts such as radius, diameter, centre, etc.
