DETAILED INFORMATION ON
THE ACCOUNTING SUPPLEMENT DISC

A-1) MARK-UP. This program deals with the relationships between sales, opening stock, stock purchases, closing stock, cost of goods sold, gross profit and mark-up, all of which is required learning for School Certificate Accounting. The program generates an extremely large number of sample exercises in this field and will operate in either demonstration mode or interactive mode at the user's command.
A-2) GRO-PROF. Drills students in the calculation of gross profit, creating at random innumerable exercises of two different types on this theme. Whilst the skills inculcated are essential for S.C., even total beginners in Accounting can soon begin to increase their understanding and make good progress with this highly user-friendly program, which - like all the programs on the Educator Discs ACCOUNTING SUPPLEMENT list - can be run either in demonstration mode or interactively.
A-3) NET-PROF. This deals with the concept of net profit, which many Accounting beginners find more puzzling than that of gross profit. This program aims to put an end to all the puzzlement and to reduce the calculation of net profit to a simple procedure well within the grasp of most students.
A-4) PER-RET. Aims at teaching students how to compare a business with any other form of investment by learning how to calculate and apply the PERCENTAGE RETURN delivered by a business's net profit.
A-5) E-RATIO. Deals with an interpretative ratio much beloved of bankers and financiers - the shareholders' equity ratio. Makes the user aware that the form of this ratio actually used by many financiers and bankers differs slightly from the classical form of the ratio required for S.C. exams.
A-6) WORKCAPT. Deals in detail with the concepts of current assets and current liabilities, and drills students in the use of these concepts to calculate that key figure, WORKING CAPITAL, which bankers and financiers find so useful in assessing whether a loan applicant measures up to their requirements - and which is also required knowledge for S.C. Accounting.
A-7) W-RATIO. Shows students in step-by-step fashion how to calculate that much used indicator of solvency - the working capital ratio.
A-8) L-CAPT. Introduces students to the concept of liabilities which have to be paid quickly and assets that regularly turn quickly into cash. From there, the program leads on to the concept of liquid capital and how to use it as an indicator of a business's immediate financial security.
A-9) L-RATIO. The aim of this program is to inculcate a working knowledge of the liquid capital RATIO and how to calculate it when given information on a business's stock, cash, acceptances, debtors and liabilities. As in all the programs on the Accounting Supplement list, the emphasis is simple, step-by-step procedure.
A-10) DIVIDEND. Shows student how to calculate closing shareholders' funds when given information on opening capital, gross profit, interest, expenses and dividends. The program also takes a look at some differing meanings attached to the word capital, with which students need to be fully cognisant - not only for the programs on this list, but also for S.C. exams in Economics as well as Accounting!
