The C.A.R.S 32 CD-ROM Light Vehicle Automotive Series,
With industrys support the Light Vehicle Automotive CD-ROM Series has been developed to meet the universal needs of the automotive training industry, benchmarked against international standards.
The 32 interactive programs on CD form a comprehensive set of learning materials with built in formative testing. They have been carefully constructed to be very easy to use by the target market, being both new entrants and experienced automotive technicians. Each disc in the set provides the equivalent of 20 hours of conventional classroom based theory. The 32 discs that complete the automotive training series are grouped into 17 modules.

Design Objectives
The Light Vehicle Automotive CD-ROM Series has been designed to:
Improve access to training for small business.
Improve access to formalised training in remote locations.
Be modular, so that they don't lock the student into a rigid sequence, and are capable of meeting training requirements when they are needed.
Enhance productivity through improved and relevant training.
Provide material relevant to contemporary skill requirements.
Provide support for the transition from school to work and youth employment-training schemes.
Provide support for post qualification and ongoing training in advanced technologies for automotive technicians.
Provide a solid foundation for the development of competencies on-the-job.
Require no special skills to access and operate.
Enhance motivation through training that is interesting, meaningful and involving.
Reduce the cost of training.
Support compliance with an International Certification Programme and International Competencies set by industry.
Recognise what the learner already knows.
Multiple potential delivery modes have been accommodated in the design of the materials.
The latest release is in CD-ROM format plays on PCs under Win3.1, Win95, Win98.
The richness of the content, the simplicity in operation, and low cost of delivery, bring significant benefits to all involved - learners, teachers, and education providers.
Some of the benefits of the system are as follows:
Allows technical teachers to concentrate on "higher-order" teaching skills.
Allows technical institutes to re-deploy existing resources to cope with predicted increases in student numbers.
Provides training materials for the transition from school to work.
Establishes a world market leadership position in flexible delivery methods.
Establishes a low cost delivery platform for future delivery of other vocational activities.
Individual Learner Benefits
Significantly more training is done independently by the learner with the system, at home or at work. For those learners who have retreated from the formal education process this is a much less threatening way of presenting information. Other benefits to the student include:
Improves access to quality educational materials for both pre-vocational and vocational students, especially those in remote areas.
Supports the "learning for life" needs of qualified automotive technicians currently employed in the automotive industry.
Provides learners with a more efficient and effective means of learning on the job or at home in their own time.
Through resource re-allocation and course redesign provide the opportunity to increase the numbers of people trained within an existing tertiary sector budget.
Reduced living away from home costs and non-productive time away from work.
