Snow Storm

Part One

In part one, we will be making a "Snow Globe" using the quick image I made using trees and snowmen from the Component Designer Christmas banner section of PhotoImpact X3.

In Part 2 we will  create a "Snow Storm" with the snow that you have made from my GA Snow Tutorial and the "Snow Globe" we will make in this tutorial .

Right-click on the image below and save it to a folder on your hard drive.

OK lets get started!

Making your Snow Globe in PhotoImpact

1. Make a new image 400 x 400 at 300 ppi with a white background.

2. Click on your path drawing tool and draw out a circle any colour, 2D mode, 200 x 200.

3. Object/Align/Centre Both.

4. Edit/Fill/Image and navigate to the folder where you have saved your background tile.

5. Check the Fit To Image then click on preview to see how it looks in your circle. If it looks ok then click on OK. If not click on the tile to fit and see what that looks like. Pick the better of the 2.

6. Right-click and duplicate your circle.

7. Open your EP/Material/Glass/L01.

8. Open the Material box by clicking on the Adjust Material Icon above.

9. Select "Shading", then Metallic, Copper and give "Shininess" a value of 16 and the "Strength" 0.

10.  Select "Light" and move the Ambient up to 50.

10a.  Deselect Object.

11. Click on your Path Drawing Tool/Custom Shape/F134.

12.  While your shape (F134) is still selected, go to Material/Metallic/M17 and double click.

This will give your stand a nice silver metallic look.

13. Draw out your shape so that it covers the bottom of your Snow Globe. Click on your Transform Tool and click on the Flip Horizontally icon. Now move your stand so that it sits nicely at the bottom of your Snow Globe.

14. Right-Click and duplicate your stand.

15. Right- Click/Arrange/Send to back.

16. Your back stand will still be selected so move it up until it looks natural. To get the perspective right you will need to make the width a tiny bit smaller.

17.  You should end up with an image that looks something like the one on the right.

At this point add some elements behind the glass and some elements in front of the glass like a snowman etc. This is entirely up to you.

17. File/Save As/UFO

If you have trouble opening .ufo files in GA 5 then save as a .psd file.

End of Part One!

If you have followed the instructions on my how to make snow tutorial GA 5, then Part 2 will show you how to animate the snow you have created inside a path Drawing Tool shape such as a circle etc.

Thank you for doing my tutorial and I hope you had fun making your Snow Globe in PI.
