Snow Storm

Part Two

Animating your Snow Globe

Snow Globe is with some elements from the "Component Designer" feature in PI and a background made by me.

Download the Snow Globe parts   HERE

I have also made a snow file available for download HERE

Information:

GA works this way.

If you don't need to delete any excess the you can make a 4-10 frame (or even longer) animation with one layer of snow.

However if you are deleting some of the snow (like we will be from around the Snow Globe) then you need a layer of snow for each frame.

The reason for that is.......................Every time you delete the excess snow in each frame on the storyboard, it will delete it of the original snow layer unless you have a layer of snow for each frame.

As you can imagine, if you only have the 1 layer of snow, then 3 frames will have bits of snow missing from them.

1.Open your Snow Globe in Gif Animator 5 and close the eye on the white background.

Close the eyes on 1, 2, and 4.

Only the eye on the 3 should be open, which is the Picture layer of your Snow Globe.

3. Click on the Magic Wand.

3a. Make sure you have the settings at the right all ticked before your use the Magic Wand

Similarity 12

Anti-aliasing Ticked

Connected pixels only Ticked

4. Touch the transparent area around your Snow Globe with your magic wand.

5. Open all the eyes, except for the white background layer at the bottom.

6. Click on the Add Image Icon and navigate to the folder where you have the snow you made from the previous tutorial.

6a. Drag the snow layer down so that it sits between your glass and the background picture circle.

7. Click on the transform tool and pull the snow up (or down) to the bottom of your Snow Globe circle.

Make sure that you also have enough snow hanging over the outside on both sides of the Snow Globe.

8.  Duplicate the Snow layer 2 times, you should have 3 layers of snow.

8a.  Close the eyes on Snow2, and 3.

8b.  Highlight Snow 1 Layer.

9. Zoom in and hover your mouse pointer over a large snowflake on the outside of the Snow Globe and it will turn into a black arrowhead.

When it turns into a black arrowhead hold and drag your snow to the left a lot keeping the bottom of the snow in line with the bottom of the Snow Globe..

We are now on the way to creating a Snow Storm!!

10. Click on the Duplicate Frame icon under your storyboard.

11. While Frame 2 is highlighted, highlight your Snow 1 layer and close the eye. Highlight Snow 2 layer and open the eye.

Don't move the snow, We are going to leave this snow layer exactly were it is.

12. Click on the Duplicate Frame icon under your storyboard.

13. While Frame 3 is highlighted, highlight your Snow 2 layer and close the eye. Highlight Snow 3 layer and open the eye.

Hover your mouse pointer over a large snowflake on the outside of the Snow Globe and it will turn into a black arrowhead.

When it turns into a black arrowhead hold and drag your snow to the right until the left edge of the snow is on the very edge of the Snow Globe.

14. Click on the preview tab and if you are happy with the Snow Storm, then it is time to delete the excess snow from around the Snow Globe!!

I gave my animation a value of 8 in the Frame Properties/Delay box. The speed is entirely up to you, just remember though that sometimes GA will make your animation slower if you go below 8 in the delay box.

15.   While the Snow 3 layer and Frame 3 on your storyboard  is still highlighted, click back onto your Magic wand then go to Selections Options button/Make Selection Area Transparent or just hit the delete key on your keyboard.

16.  Highlight Snow 2 layer and Frame 2 on your storyboard, go to Selections Options button/Make Selection Area Transparent or just hit the delete key on your keyboard.

17.   Highlight Snow 1 layer and Frame 1 on your storyboard, go to Selections Options button/Make Selection Area Transparent or just hit the delete key on your keyboard.

18. Hold Down your Shift key and select the 3 frames in the storyboard.

18a. Right-click/Frame Properties. In the Delay box,  type in a value of 8

Smart should be selected in the Removal method.

Click OK.

At this stage you may want to open the eye of the white background in all frames to lighten the weight of your animation. Mine is a 3 frame animation with no white background and the kilobyte weight is 63.1 which I don't think is to heavy.

These animations were made in exactly the same way as the instructions above.

The animation with the free tube from outlawbydesign the magic wand was clicked on the outside of the star shape line.

Thank you for doing my tutorial and I hope you had fun making your snow, and animating it in the snow globe.
