MAGICAL LINKS

The amount of information available on the Internet is huge - the issue is always one of finding it. The following links are provided to provide a start in finding information related to the history and performance of magic. Those interested in learning about how to perform magic or how magic illusions are done are recommended to visit their local library, and if the interest in magic is strong they should contact their local magic club. Magic clubs usually run teaching sessions as a part of their normal meeting programmes.

INTERNATIONAL MAGICIANS AND THIER SITES

There are a large number of magicians that are worthy of listing here. I have limited the list of links to those that are likely to be most recognised by the general public.

http://www.dcopperfield.com/. David Copperfield would be the world's best known current magician. He has performed in all aspects of magic but is best known for his grand illusions, stage magic, and various Television specials. No list of magic links would be complete without including David Copperfield.

http://www.uelectric.com/houdini/. Just as David Copperfield may be the worlds best known current magician, Houdini is likely to be the worlds all time best known magician. The name Houdini is especially associated with his work as an escape artist and many a child today is referred to as a 'little Houdini' when they run of from their parents. There are a number of Internet sites that cover Houdini and the one I have provided is typical of them.

http://www.sincity.com/. Penn and Teller have become known as rogues within the magical community and some of this appears to have been generated by themselves or their publicity machines. There is no question that they are a very talented magical duo whose audiences receive a truly entertaining show - and this final point must be the key indicators as to the ability of any magicians. They have appeared on numerous Television shows and specials.

http://www.lanceburton.com/. In the United States Lance Burton is recognised as a Master Magician. In New Zealand his recognition within the magical community would be similar, however the general public may not recognise his name. Lance has been a long time performer on stage in Las Vegas and is truly talented. His limited name recognition in New Zealand will relate to the fact that he has not been seen on many magic television shows in this country.

wwam4.gif (2781 bytes)  http://www.magiciansalliance.com/ . Modern Day magicians do not claim to really have magical powers but are really entertainers playing out a role. A large part of the entertainment does come from the magical surprises that happen along the way. Exposure of Magical Secrets reduces the magical surprise and takes the entertainment down to a level where it becomes I can trick you. The World Alliance of Magicians is an organisation aimed at reducing exposure of magic and ensuring the long term survival of the magical art.
