Christchurch rider Dale Finch well and truely exorcised any ghosts lingering from a horrific speedway crash when he claimed the Permacoat Roofing New Zealand U21 Solo crown at the Oreti Park track on Saturday night......read on .

Plenty of racing to be had this past weekend with many punters including myself managing three meetings in three days ,  Several racers managed to do the same .

The weekend started with the budget entry priced high value Rotorua club night the featuring the debut of the new 89r Superstock piloted by Dale Robinson and the first appearance of the 96r ex Joe Farem car now driven by Scott Redfern. Competitor numbers were high as were the moisture levels but still some good racing and action as the Sportsweb Photography image of 69r Carl Barrett illustrates. The right rear dug in, popping the tyre which then sent him hard on to the left rear, causing that to pop and dig in, putting him on his lid.
The stand out event of the weekend for macgor was the Midget 40 lapper at Huntly with Michael Pickens and Brad Mosen starring in the cars that have been prepared to contest the Chilli Bowl in Tulsa . Although the two did dominate the quailifying races it was reigning NZ champion Shayne Alach that drove from the back of the 40 lapper after a terrible qualifying effort to take the win, A last corner dive back into the lead by Pickens was rejected by the Referee as being over the pole line. The Waikato Superstock Champs was contested on the same night with 25 cars in attendance and plenty of action . 85h Jared Wade was the winner of that event from 23h Lance Ashton .
The Sth Island Superstock Champs were contested at Blenheim and won by 48n Brett Nicholls from 1nz Malcolm Ngatai and 7n Craig Boote . A points tie between Boote and Ngatai was decided by a coin toss and why was Craig Boote test driving 1nz after the meeting?.

The Under 23 stockcar Champs at Stratford was won by 95r Dale Stewart from 12w Simon Hendry  and 29m Ryan Huntly , I've been been told the racing was torrid and next year this meeting will be on my 'must do' list .

The Sunday meeting at Kihikihi was hot stuff both on and off the track . Less than the hoped for number of cars fronted for the King Country Superstock Champs but the 32 that did show turned on a show . 515r Stan Hickey looked the goods through qualifying for the one race final . He came to grief in the opening laps of the final when something broke on the car which left 85h Jared Wade in the box seat and looking like a double champion for the weekend . It wasn't to be though when he faded a little as laps were clocked up while local NZ title hope 6k Kerry Remnant turned in a superb drive in testing conditions to claim the win . Wade hung on for second and the well performing 31p Andy McCabe was third . Interesting to note the quiet achiever 75a Dave Tennant in fourth . Image courtesy of Sportweb Photography

A new national champion will be crowned when Oreti Park Speedway hosts the Permacoat Roofing New Zealand Under-21 Championships this Saturday. Modifieds have wings so they can fly would be the assumption after looking at this Westpeak Photography shot of 226s Blair Luscombe at Stratford on saturday evening . Images of the equally spectacular aftermath can be found by clicking here .Thankfully the drivers involved are reportedly ok . As could have been expected 11a Jamie Fox won the Taranaki Modified champs and the Midget Series round win was taken by 54a Michael Pickens . 90+ Laps to get a 30 lapper run though so obviously things didn't go that well .
Over at Palmerston North the Panther fans are crying into their chip cartons after their team went down to a rampant Nelson Tigers team in a one off encounter . The general concensus is that the Panthers will be back on their game come Teams Champs time in February although the Tigers will now return with restored confidence in their own ability and that could make a very big difference to the outcome .
48a Phil Towgood(picture by h20mph) carried the chequered when the racing for the NZ Saloon G.P. was done with at wellington on saturday night . The ever enduring brilliant to watch driver was followed home by 1nz Brent McClymont and 21h Steve Williams . There was a good turnout of cars for this event too so perhaps speedway G.P's aren't dead after all . The Canterbury Superstock championship was not won by 1nz Malcolm Ngatai as might have been expected . The new champion is 83c Shane Anderton .
Much of the planned speedway in the North Island fell victim to rotten weather , sad as it sounds it does mean there are some extra good value meets to be had over the coming weeks . I will try and get my calandar up to speed with the changes this week . And who ever would of thought there would be 40 Superstocks at Kihikihi next sunday for the King Country champs .

12 class outfits turned up for the Waikato Sidecar Champs at Kihikihi on sunday which was won by 9g Deane and Rob Millar from 1nz Les Plummer and Kervin Demanser .The other highlight of the meeting was the 16 Superstocks who were obviously getting geared up for the NZ Champs happening at Kihikihi in just under 2 months time . Macgor was at Kihikihi because his saturday night speedway plans were wrecked by the inclement weather that ruined many meetings around the country. Nelson was one of the few that ran and Skinny Colson won the War of the Wings Sprintcar meeting there . There was an excellent interview with Skinny on TV1 sunday afternoon , if you missed it then luckily it's available here. At Western Springs they managed a part meeting on Saturday night and the rest of it on Sunday evening albeit with noise issues that sidelined a car or two. The Wynns International Sprintcar Classic winner was 9usa Joey Saldana from 7usa Craig Dollansky. First Kiwi home was 8a Ryan O'Connor in 3rd . Roll on Summer .
