Plenty of racing to be had
this past weekend with many punters including myself managing three meetings
in three days , Several racers managed to do the same .
The weekend started
with the budget entry priced high value Rotorua club night the featuring
the debut of the new 89r Superstock piloted by Dale Robinson and the first
appearance of the 96r ex Joe Farem car now driven by Scott Redfern. Competitor
numbers were high as were the moisture levels but still some good racing
and action as the Sportsweb
Photography image of 69r Carl Barrett illustrates. The right
rear dug in, popping the tyre which then sent him hard on to the left rear,
causing that to pop and dig in, putting him on his lid.
The stand out event of the weekend for macgor
was the Midget 40 lapper at Huntly with Michael Pickens and Brad Mosen
starring in the cars that have been prepared to contest the Chilli
Bowl in Tulsa . Although the two did dominate the quailifying races
it was reigning NZ champion Shayne Alach that drove from the back of the
40 lapper after a terrible qualifying effort to take the win, A last corner
dive back into the lead by Pickens was rejected by the Referee as being
over the pole line. The Waikato Superstock Champs was contested on the
same night with 25 cars in attendance and plenty of action . 85h Jared
Wade was the winner of that event from 23h Lance Ashton .
The Sth Island Superstock Champs
were contested at Blenheim and won by 48n Brett Nicholls from 1nz Malcolm
Ngatai and 7n Craig Boote . A points tie between Boote and Ngatai was decided
by a coin toss and why was Craig Boote test driving 1nz after the meeting?.
The Under 23 stockcar Champs at Stratford
was won by 95r Dale Stewart from 12w Simon Hendry and 29m Ryan Huntly
, I've been been told the racing was torrid and next year this meeting
will be on my 'must do' list .

The Sunday meeting at Kihikihi
was hot stuff both on and off the track . Less than the hoped for number
of cars fronted for the King Country Superstock Champs but the 32 that
did show turned on a show . 515r
Stan Hickey looked the goods through qualifying for the one race final
. He came to grief in the opening laps of the final when something broke
on the car which left 85h Jared Wade in the box seat and looking like a
double champion for the weekend . It wasn't to be though when he faded
a little as laps were clocked up while local NZ title hope 6k Kerry Remnant
turned in a superb drive in testing conditions to claim the win . Wade
hung on for second and the well performing 31p Andy McCabe was third .
Interesting to note the quiet achiever 75a Dave Tennant in fourth . Image
