Manufacturing Pilot Plant

Dept. of Production Technology
Massey University

Me, moving a Printed Circuit Board between tanks in the "Wetline" of the Plant.

This factory is concieved as a rapid-turnaround prototyping facility for Electronics goods, based around the production of double-sided plated-through-hole printed-circuit boards. It employs a linear process, with robotic product movement and integrated information flow systems, from concept of product through design, manufacture of print-board and assembly to finished product in-hand.

The purpose of the factory is to provide our Technology students with a semi-industrial environment in which to practice the disciplines of manufacture, e.g. Scheduling, Process Control, Infomation Flow, etc., so that they emerge from the course with some experience and can 'hit the ground running'.

Our Department's placement rate (percentage of students gaining employment immediately on graduation) is the highest in the country, and this is a tribute to Departmental philosophy.
