WARMASTER : Skaven Army List

| Intro. | | Statistics | | Common Rules | | Special Rules | | Spells |

This army list is for representing the sadly neglected Skaven army in Rick Priestly's Warmaster tabletop fantasy wargame, published by Games Workshop- at least until an official list is produced. No offence is intended to any copyright holder.

In the unlikely event that you are reading this in ignorance, Skaven are a race of ratmen in the Warhammer World. Vicious and thoroughly corrupted by the magical influence of Warpstone, the Skaven clans plot in the shadows against each other and the rest of the world. A fuller description of Skaven and the army units listed below can be found in the Warhammer Armies: Skaven book.

Further unofficial army lists, house rules and discussion of Warmaster can be found at the Maximum Warmaster website.

Hopefully this is a balanced and fair army list that captures the flavour of a Skaven army, however if you find any grievous errors feel free to contact me. Of course, if you any comments regarding this list (or any tales of glorious victory or ignominious defeat) contact me, as well.

Common Skaven Rules

Skaven fight as a large, unstoppable multitude, borne on by sheer momentum wave upon wave of massed Skaven ranks swamp the enemy. To represent this the following rules apply to all Skaven units:

When Skaven units brigade together, a +1 Command bonus is applied to attempts to command the unit for each unit in the brigade after the first one. This brigade bonus cannot increase the leader's effective Command Value to more than 10.

Special Rules

  1. Warpfire Throwers are attached to Skaven Warrior units in the same way that Skirmishers are attached to Empire infantry units. In addition, due to the fluid nature of Warpfire, Fortified targets attacked by the Warpfire Thrower are treated as if they were Defended, similarly Defended targets are treated as if they were in the Open.
  2. Doom Wheel. Range 30cm. The Doom Wheel cannot brigade with other units and forms a unit on its own. The Doom Wheel moves up to 20cm; if it moves into terrain it cannot cross, it is destroyed. It cannot be driven back by shooting. The warp-stone engine that drives the Wheel is unstable and prone to catastrophic failure, to represent this if a blunder is rolled when ordering the Wheel the engine detonates, destroying the Doom Wheel.
  3. Screaming Bell. The General or a Hero or a Wizard, may be carried into battle on a Screaming Bell. The Screaming Bell adds +2 attacks to those of its rider. In additional, due to it's relentless tolling, a unit which includes the Screaming Bell causes terror in its enemies.

Spells

Skaven Warlocks have access to the following spells.

Plague of Rats 5+ to cast Range: 50cm Cast against an enemy unit in range and line of sight. The enemy unit is confused.
Warp Lightning 6+ to cast Range: 30cm Cast at a point within range, regardless of whether the Warlock can see it or not. All units (friend or foe) within 10cm of the point take 3 attacks worked out in the usual way. A unit can be driven back by Warp Lightning.
Adrenaline 5+ to cast Range: 30cm Cast upon a friendly unit within range, regardless of whether the Warlock can see it or not. The unit may immediately make a charge move and adds +1 to its attack profile in the next combat phase.
Madness 5+ to cast Range: 30cm Cast upon an enemy character within range and line of sight. If the casting is successful roll 2D6, if the total is greater than the enemy character's command value they are taken by a temporary madness. The enemy character may not issue orders, move, join or assist a unit in combat for their next turn.
