Screech! KRK063 CDR 18trks 73minIn terms of finish & coherence, Screech!, originally recorded between August 1993 & February 1994 & released on a 45min cassette as KRK005, remains TMA-1's definitive statement. Probably what most distinguishes it from the trio's earlier releases is the degree to which noodles, fragments & cut-ups (however enthralling in their own right) have coalesced into actual songs. Lo-fi digital samples, tapes & sample-triggered drum machine sounds were skilfully woven together to create tight & compelling punk-industrial rock songs possessing a presence & an impact never before achieved by the group. The samples themselves were mainly limited to a single source - John Boorman's priceless 1973 cult science fiction classic: Zardoz. This further contributed to Screech!'s coherence & internal unity. Peter's progressive mastery of home recording techniques, & his desire to get a little more serious about making music, drove the advances in song composition & production displayed on the album. Compared with its predecessor, this new seriousness also explains the darker tone of Screech!. Gone is the charming, happy-go-lucky atmosphere of 5. On Screech! a bleak nihilism dominates - still flavoured, however, with flashes of undeniable wit & levity. Peter remastered Screech! to DAT between March & July 1996 & reissued it as KRK063 - expanded to 60min. Further remastering & processing took place in latter 1997 when Screech! first became available on CDR. Peter finally remastered the album a 3rd time in mid 2002 using Pro Tools software & an Apple Powerbook. We think it may be finished now.
