The definitive compilation of NoTV's early music (mainly from the 1994 cassette releases Fears KRK006 & Amitriptyline KRK022) created between 1993 & 1995. These classic recordings, reflecting J-mz's press record & go! philosophy exude a presence & energy that more than compensates for the odd bit of noise or distortion. Veering from conventionally structured (though anything but conventionally executed) punk-inflected pop to more abstract & ambient machine music, Retrovision expresses the frustrations of life in the freakscene in a fundamentally straight, middle-class city like Christchurch, NZ.
As part of kRkRkRk's ongoing & ad hoc regurgitation of its distant past, Retrovision was compiled in early 1999 when David & J-mz remastered the surviving, early NoTV 4-track cassette tapes to DAT. CDR mastering was performed in late '99 by Arnie van Bussel at Nightshift Studios, Christchurch. Rescued from oblivion, enlivened by some subtle remastering bells & whistles, this essential document of kRkRkRk's early period has never sounded better!
