Sedative |

Controlled Release KRK098The only recording Sedative made, Controlled Release is a half hour of pieces constructed from one afternoon's improvisation at Nga Mata Waka training studio. The only pre-prepared elements were the collection of instruments to be used and the slow MIDI sequence that forms a bed for the first track. Despite languishing on cassette for a while, this recording is still surprisingly crisp and hits with an almost alarming immediacy. Credited to Nightmare (Brendon Mably), Fragmentation (Ed Wilson) and Paranoia (Nigel Cooper), this release is a bleak work that progressively marches relentlessly, fades into a cracked and nostalgic pastiche of beauty and rises in a futile rage. Whilst at times it ventures into near-rock musical territory, taken as a whole this set of soundscapes tells a tale of psychological trauma.
