Come Back to My Place & Strap Me On Sometime KRK105 CDR 8trks 43min

Recorded in spring '96, this remarkably upbeat & playful album marked the first collaborations between Don, Nova & Matt Alien (Matt Johnstone) immediately prior to their 3 year excursion into pure punk rock & R&B. Much of this work was initially released on kRkRkRk, in cassette form, as Fingerless Love KRK079 in early 1997.

Gone, for the time being, were the tape samples, cut-ups & industrial/hardcore overtones of the Dunedin recordings. In their place a delicious surf-cabaret atmosphere infected the proceedings. Quite apart from Matt's stinging, surf guitar rave ups & the tribal & latinesque rhythms of his drum machine, Come Back To My Place… was distinguishable from earlier Strap Ons recordings by its unprecedented abundance of keyboard textures. These ranged from Don's newly acquired Sequential Circuits Pro-One analogue synth & Yamaha preset mini-keyboard to Nova's Hammond Organ (which had originally belonged to King Loser's Celia Mancini).

Matt also wrote & performed lead vocals on several songs - a role which would generally diminish during the Strap Ons' impending rock phase & as the contemporaneous Hi-Tone Destroyers project (which also featured Don) demanded more of his compositional energies.
