Becoming a house Dad to look after 2 boys under 5yrs, send the wife off to work and look for a little more income myself, became a lot harder than this male thought. I had a few wood working tools and thinking of making playhouses I decided to get a garage built on the back yard and build playhouses etc. Slow going and playhouses were to big around the place, kids were needing more attention and winter had approached and slowed things down even more.

Getting a dog to entertain the boys and guard the property after a couple of recent burglaries, changed what may have become nothing. Firstly the dog needed to live outside, and guard the property. Owing to this it needed a kennel. What size? What shape? What material? I then found plans for a medium size kennel in a magazine and decided to make one myself. This gave me the basic design, as I changed a lot of the original plans to make things suit the rustic design I was after. On completion I was quite proud of the outcome and decided to advertise one on trade me. I had most of the tools etc needed to manufacture these, so I thought if I could sell a few of these a month it would help with the household needs we were struggling with.

The first auction sold 3. in the first week. Made these and auctioned again. The same thing happened. It was now that I decided to keep going by buying more and better tools, getting the father in-law to help out with minding kids and expand to making kennels that people had designed around my basic design. I still only have limited time to produce these, but it has been great dealing with people that understand that, and are prepared to wait for the kennel they order. Many thanks to all my customers so far for their patients and purchases of my kennels and structures.
