Wahaika

A short club carved from whalebone and displayed on a wood burl.
The eyes in the figures on the club and club handle are hand-turned paua.
The Wahaika was used in close combat.  The more elaborate items were 
named and passed on from generation to generation and were used
primarily for ceremonial purposes.

Private commission by a collector of Maori weapons.  
Approximately 45 cms in length.

Kotiate

A flat, short club carved from whalebone with hand-turned paua eyes.
Displayed on a block of New Zealand greenstone (jade).

Private commission by a collector of Maori weapons.
Approximately 40 cms in length.
