Bone takes on a rich wood-like
appearance when smoked in an ordinary fish smoker. This is particularly
dramatic when a portion of the item is left it's natural colour by
masking off the bone before smoking. It is particularly important to
make the masking airtight (or smoke tight). These were smoked using ti-tree
or manuka (native New Zealand tree) wood shavings. The colour is
permanent but not deep and the pendants have a lovely wood smoke aroma
when new. |
