The Dall Sheep story. . . 
The Dall sheep sculpture began with an extremely large deer button (first image top row). A Canadian sculptor friend provided a much welcomed 3D clay model to work from along with the many pictures available. The first attempt was discarded and the second was cut from the 400 gm (14 oz) button shown.

In a matter of days, a form emerged and actual sheep horn was used to make the miniature rack.
