Maria Hartley's works have an undercurrent of the deeper meanings of life. Using abstract pieces to convey emotive feelings from the viewer and then offsetting these feelings through the use of words. "I want to let people see that which is just under the surface of us all" it is this passion for showing others what society in general tends to ignore, that fuels Maria's mind and brush to create. Maria's art centres largely around the areas of depression, anxiety, the effects of alcoholism and self-discovery in an abstract and fresh way. "My art is what has got me through many areas within my life and my hope is that it will help others do the same, offering a sense of fellowship and comfort in the fact that no one is truly alone." Maria works primarily in acrylic but her works are known for their vast array of mixed media and textured effects. Maria is an active member of the New Zealand Artists Guild who’s site can be found in the links on this page. |
