A MULTI-DIMENSIONAL WORLD VIEW

14. DO WE LIVE IN AN EXPANDING DIMENSIONS UNIVERSE?

Realising that we are living in a dimensional universe opens up another question. Is our seven dimensional universe expanding?

We could be in a universe with seven dimensions which will always be the only dimensions we will ever experience. We could also be in a universe that is winding down and will eventually have fewer dimensions, and fizzle out after millions of years as being unsuitable for life as we know it.

Or we could be in a universe that has expanding dimensions. There are two ways that dimensions can expand, either by the dimensions themselves growing, or by additional dimensions operating. So we could grow to become an eight dimensional universe, then nine, then ten and so on.

Possibility of an expanding dimensions universe
What is the possibility that we are in an expanding dimensions universe?

1. The nature of dimensions are that they are all open to each other. There is nothing in the nature of dimensions that says that they should be closed to other dimensions operating.

2. There may be a link between one dimension growing and additional dimensions being added. We know that the knowledge dimension is growing. It is likely that consiousness is a second dimension of knowledge we experience, in which case it has only gradually unfolded over relatively recent history of planet earth. Will there be further growth of this dimension? Will there be the unfolding of the third dimension of knowledge, inspiration and revelation? It could be a gradual unfolding of an additional dimension, or it could be a sudden occurrence when a critical point is reached.

3. Additional dimensions may gradually unfold. The knowledge dimension seems to have been a gradually unfolding one. Only a few crucial pieces of information were necessary at the beginning of the universe. But now there is a huge amount of knowledge that has been generated, and we are beginning to explore the nature of our universe itself. If additional dimensions only gradually unfold we may not recognise them at first, and there is likely to be human resistance to the idea simply because it is not what we are used to, or it may show up in unexpected ways.

4. There are already things which happen in life which are hard to explain without there being some additional dimensions operating at times in certain situations. Unexplainable healings, near death experiences, the way new insight or knowledge arises, and the evidence for demonic activity, are some of them.

5. The hidden dimensions of superstrings are still there. They may have been unfolding slowly already. We cannot assume that they will remain curled up or hidden for ever.

Biblical evidence for an expanding dimensions universe
1. Jesus came to preach that the Kingdom of God was near, and proceeded to minister in miraculous power. Jesus preached, "The right time has come and the Kingdom of God is near! Turn away from your sins and believe the Good News." [Mark 2:15] We can easily understand what the Kingdom of God is in terms of the dimensions of God which are beyond our present seven dimensions. For God’s Kingdom to come means that the dimensions of the universe would grow or expand. In God's plan there was a right time for Jesus to have announced his Kingdom.

Jesus said that his Kingdom was to grow, "The Kingdom of Heaven is like this. A man takes a mustard seed and sows it in his field. It is the smallest of seeds, but when it grows up, it is the biggest of all plants." [Matthew 13:31]

2. The Resurrection as we have seen could have been demonstrating extra dimensions not just for the future, but for us to enter into now also. (See section 9)

3. Although Genesis says that God's creation was completed [Genesis 2:1,3] other Bible passages indicate that God's creativeness isn't finished. Isaiah of Babylon in bringing the message of God's creation added, "Now I will tell you of new things even before they begin to happen." [Isaiah 42:9] "The Lord says, 'I am making a new heavens and a new earth. The events of the past will be completely forgotten.'" [Isaiah 65:17]

4. The Return of Jesus and setting up of a Kingdom on earth with us, show all the signs of an expanded dimensions world we call the Millennium. "They came to life and ruled as kings with Christ for a thousand years." [Revelation 20:4] Even that is a phase in God's plan, with at the end of that period, a final uniting of heaven and the universe, "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, the first heaven and the first earth disappeared..." [Revelation 21:1]

5. A Biblical pattern is that God reveals his truth in stages rather than all at once. Just as there is a gradual unfolding of God's revelation at the right time, so also God can unfold his dimensions at the right time.

Will dimensions unfold slowly or rapidly?
Will the Millennium come about suddenly as the Bible seems to indicate, or slowly?

The prophets often see the mountain peaks without seeing the plains in between. We do need to be careful about thinking that the Lord's return is tomorrow. People take time to adjust to new realities, so won't God move slowly in unwrapping his package of the Universe for us? It took centuries for the first around the first world explorers to open up the 2D world for us, to do the 3D around the world trips that we are accustomed to today.

Even if the Millennium came suddenly, there may need to be a long lead up time to allow the necessary dimensions to grow to the point when there is a trigger point for the new universe to be opened. Just think of how long it takes to build a large building before it can be opened fully for use.

Even if the Millennium is a literal thousand years, that is a good long time that may be necessary for people to work their way through getting used to a world with new dimensions.

Suffering and the expanding dimensions universe
There is one thing that to me proves that we must be in an expanding dimensions universe. The world doesn't make sense according to the principle of symmetry (that there is one law that applies to the whole universe) if it isn't expanding. We already have the space realm with three dimensions, giving us full freedom of movement. We already have demonstrated the three spiritual dimensions. Why not all realms with three dimensions each - a total of at least 21 dimensions?

The effect of not having a complete symmetry of dimensions is that we live in world with suffering. It is suffering that is caused by the limitations of the dimensions that we are in. It may be necessary for our growth now, but the suffering causes us to look beyond our present dimensions to God for answers. We know that suffering is not God's plan - if we didn't think that, we would never go to the doctor or fund a rescue helicopter.

In our suffering we could be looking for answers beyond our present dimensions.

How can we make a difference?
How can we make a difference in an expanding dimensions universe?

Since I began thinking of our universe in dimensional terms I have only just begun thinking of what it would mean for life now.

The overwhelming picture that has come to me is that we have to be ready for these changes before they will happen. God will not unfold new dimensions until we are ready to cope with them. At the present pace of historical change, that seems pretty unlikely to happen quickly.

People need be taught how to think dimensionally. It may be especially hard for those who find it difficult to read a map to find where they are going.

We will need much more research into dimensionality from scientists, mathematicians, Christian apologists (those theologians who look into reasons for faith), and philosophers, people who can work together as much as possible. Perhaps there should be special university departments set up to look into this, and theological college courses on dimensionality designed.

The practical application of such study could look at all sorts of new ways that discoveries can be combined. I saw on the news this morning about how an exercise walker had been designed with a computer that was able to be used for both measuring the exercise and for gaming at the same time, combining physical fitness and entertainment. Bringing together ideas from separate disciplines can spark completely new ways of thinking about things. This is a core approach for dimensionality thinking.

Much more effort needs to be put into positive purposeful goals for all activities of personal life, business, churches, and government. We already realise the need to have vision statements, but these need to be extended a lot further. The reason for this is so we can find more common goals towards which our available energy and resources can be more positively directed. Little by little in this way we will see ways to break through to new areas of freedom.

Openness to spiritual dimensions will be a vital ability to learn. Society will need to put much more resources into spiritual things if it is going to grow in its ability to be open to all dimensions of life.

Always working against this process is counterproductive activity that is self serving or destructive. Building family life and relationships will help people to be more confident to make the many changes that will happen as society grows in its dimensions. Terrorists are not only destroying life, but are diverting activity of many others away from resources that should be more positively employed. People need to be brought into the process of growing into our positive future.
