Alexandria

We visited this city first in 2003 and have fallen in love with her! ( all the locals know she is a beautiful young woman of about 25 years...) Named after and founded by Alexander the Great, Alexandria is a powerful centre of light in more ways than one. She was home to the Pharos lighthouse - one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. She was home to the Great Library of Alexandria - the centre of civilisation for Europe. She was home to Cleopatra and one of the great romances of all time. It is also not well known that the Stautue of Liberty that is now in New York was originally designed for the entrance to the Suez Canal, just down the Mediterranean coast.

Whether it is the light of liberty, the light of wisdom, the light of love, or the worldly light, Alexandria is a city of light.
