Vintage Radio

I love valve era radio communications equipment and am a member of the NZ
Vintage Radio Society. I have a collection of old short wave equipment
including Collins 75S3-B, Collier and Beale 941 (HRO clone made in NZ during
WWII, rare), National HRO , ZC1, RAF 1082 TRF regen., Drake
Twins: R4 and TX-4 Drake 2N-T, Marconi CR100 (B28) W.S. 208.
I also have a home made
TRF regen based on design in QST from 1932.

There is also my collection of vintage headphones and morse keys.

I hope to set up 1930s, 1950s and 1960s operating positions in due course so
people can enjoy old time radio.

Here I am operating ZL1DD

This photo was taken around 1990. Here I am using a replica
shortwave station of vintage 1932 or thereabouts. Three valve home made
regenerative receiver, transmitter single type 47 tube crystal oscillator
with five watts input. I am dressed in period. This station came second in
the Sangster Shield QRP contest one year.

Vintage Radio

A close up of my TRF regen receiver. Works very well. Also note Brandes
"Matched Tone" headphones, probably early 1920s. My dad gave me those with the
crystal set he made for me when I was four. The key is a Brtish Post Office
double circuit job dated 1918.

I am a member of Branch 86, the Suburban Amateur Radio Club. Our main
project is the restoration of the marvellous old coast radio station at
Musik Point, Auckland. I also assist the restoration of vintage aircraft by
collecting and restoring WW II aviation radio and radar equipment.
