Here I am operating ZL1DD.
The station is available for the use of visiting amateur radio operators
Equipment: Yaesu FT1000D. Viewstar 2x 3-500z Linear amplifier.
Full CAT with Toshiba laptop.

Antennas: Force 12 C-4SXL rotary beam,
two elements on 10,15,20, and 40m
with 15m tower. Site is 90m above the beach
and we get out very well. For
80m use dipole at 20m fed with 450 ohm ladder
line to antenna tuners, can
work all hf bands with this antenna.
Help get ZL1DD on 160! Create system to convert dipole to T for 160.
There is a dedicated radio shack with a bed and an
extensive radio library,
including QST collection back to 1928.
At Signal Hill there is a well equipped home workshop for
radio and general
construction, repair and maintenance.
I work mainly hf cw. Waiheke (OC201) is in demand from DX stations.
I was first licensed in 1953. Pressures of family and work
kept me from
being very active on radio much of my life. Moving to Waiheke
has given me
the opportunity to set up something like my dream radio station
and I enjoy
sharing it with others.

Bob Whelan, G3PJT alias ZL4CC working the 2001
Commonwealth
Contest, assisted by Kitty in the IN tray. He came sixth overall,
best score
from Oceania. The station works. Bob was President of RSGB in
2002.
Overseas radio visitors to date include: Jukka OH2BR,
Hans
SM3TLG, Bill K6KM, Bob G3PJT, Kevin VK3DAP, Nico PA0MIR, John W1CU
(ZL1/W1CU)
I have had the opportunity to operate overseas, including
calls such as
G4COP, GW4COP, A35CN, ZK1CM, ZM1BN/A as well as ZL1BN/W,
ZL1BN/VE etc.
For much of my radio life my call was ZL1BN. When my old
friend Bert ZL1DD
went SK his family asked me to take the callsign, which I
was proud to do.
Bert's family have been on the island since pioneer days and
his father
before him was the first ever holder of the callsign
