Timber Industry Consultancy 18 months

Drafting conveyor equipment for cement and sawmill industries.
Plant layout drawings integrating various suppliers to show the
layout for a large timber mill.This required me to develop 
a system for handling large drawings in 2D. They also had a 
requirement for 3D drawings of the new mill, which were produced.

Production of custom menus and various LISP routines. Several experimental 3D assembly drawings produced.

A Dairy Consultancy 2 months

Whilst there I was involved with the plant layout for a
small powder handling facility. I was also involved with the drafting
of milk evaporators and filter systems. Layout of dairy pipework,
i.e. thin walled stainless steel tube and isometric drawings for
the same. 

An Animal Rendering Plant Consultancy 6 months

Plant layout of a rendering plant, which included
drafting of platforms, cyclones, tanks, and ducting for noxious
gases. An experimental drawing using Release 13's 3D modelling
capability to layout pipes around two tanks was undertaken. This
was a success. 

A Dairy Equipment Manufacturer 8 months

This firm had embarked on progress towards ISO 9002 and as such
needed to update its entire drawing system. This meant a total
building plan to be done to enable facilities management, and
a total reorganisation of their warehouse layout was completed.
Measuring up of the existing building and its layout was done
first. In addition I drafted up their new line of vacuum pump
sets. Their drawing management system was totally overhauled under
the direction of the ISO 9002 consultant. This meant
bringing the entire parts list over from their main frame into
an Excel Spreadsheet. When it was found that the Excel Spreadsheet
did not give good flexibility I made the decision to buy Microsoft
Access, the Database package and was able to put the entire drawing
list on to Access. Drafting up of most of their parts was undertaken,
but due to a downturn was not quite completed.

A Food Machinery Manufacturer: 3 months

Conveyors for the food industry are this firms specialty. I
drafted from start to finish a magnetic detection conveyor, a
large potato bin storage/conveyor, and numerous potato conveyors.
This included not only the layouts but also all the details. 

Permanent Job:

A Racking and Materials Handling Manufacturer-From August 1986
to June 1993.(about 6 years) involved
in drafting and engineering of materials handling systems - ie
pallet racking, custom drive in racking, custom pallet live systems.Some
Space Structure drafting , project management, costing.

The main work was custom drive in racking which was total project
drafting: Original sales drawings, followed by layout drawings
and generation of complete manufacturing drawings. I used a custom
computer costing package for the costing of these racks. I also
created automated drafting of these racks with Lisp routines.
Most racking type mezzanines were designed and drafted by me.
Around 1990 a shift in company strategy meant that I began to
do quote, sale and drafting involving interaction with customers.
Due to increasing pressure of work this period lasted about 6
months before I went back to doing drafting only.

An Engineering Consultancy: 11 weeks drafting heat tracing for oil pipes

An Engineering Consultancy: 18 weeks drafting cable layouts for NZ Steel

An Industrial Designer: 6 weeks updating Stack Fireplace drawings

There were other contracts at various places, for a total of 4 years.

Two years with Cutler Hammer drafting sheet metal, taping up printed circuit boards. Permanent position.

Six years with Andelect Industries drafting High Voltage Switchgear.Permanent position.
