A few years ago, anyone caught listening to "K1W1" designed music was considered a little bit "special". In the same way that retarded people are considered "special". The very same people now of course are probably just as "spesh", but their musical tastes aren't quite so frowned upon. New Zealand music is still struggling overseas, (apart from world dominating "australian" Neil Finn) but it's not for lack of talent. In this small, unfair slice of the website I've listed a few links to bands I think deserve a little more attention. Oh wait, they don't HAVE web sites. Ok, let me think... there must be some... right?

If you're stranded overseas your best bet is probably the Flying Nun website. Good thing, they're probably the best mail order service you'll find on the internet for New Zealand music. Have you tried looking up Bike on CDNow? Bikes, Babes and Beyond is about the closest I got to anything familiar. But "no worries mate", you can order it straight from the source at Flying Nun.

Garageland have a new EP and album out at the moment. The EP entitled "Not Empty" contains 5 tracks, including a cover of the Pixies "Alison" and the album track "Trashcans". I picked this up at the ECM at Auckland airport on the way to my new home in the USA and happily filled in an hour or so while the f#$@ in front of me reclined his seat in preperation for the delightful (*vomit*) "At First Sight" starring Val Kilmer. Long sentence. Spilled rasberry yogurt on my pants some time earlier the next morning. This cd at least helped ease the pain of long haul flying.

Click above to visit garageland.net and download bite size chunks of new singles, view "interesting" photos and generally faff about. This site has the dubious honour of having real Garageland members contributing. They're not real people though are they? Surely! Where are the strings?
