![]() Battles of the Peninsular War
Although the Peninsular War was fought from 1808 to 1814 I have included Waterloo in this section as the final decisive battle. I haven't put fancy little symbols or signs up all over the place, but this site is under (slow) construction I hope to add to it, and the Voices section which has extracts from letters and diaries written by the soldiers about the battles they had been in. There are marvellous sources for this not only in the accounts that were published after the battle, but also in collections of letters such as though from Frederick Ponsonby to his mother, Lady Bessborough which were only published at the end of the nineteenth century. If you are just looking for a quick description of the campaigns then try the Beginners Guide to Waterloo or the Quick Primer on the Peninsular War.
