    Books for Janeites

    These are basically a list of books that I have either recently reviewed or have read on Jane Austen. The order is Biographies and letters, general historical work, Juvenalia and incomplete works, Video and DVD, and finally a couple of works of fiction about Austen or Austen characters. You can read my recent reviews at Amazon.com - on my Amazon review page don't forget - clicking on this link takes you off my web site. As time goes on I will fill these entries out with short comments - but don't hold your breath waiting. If you see something you like, clicking on it will take you through to Amazon - I've reviewed most of these books and videos - so either find my review or click on my homepage link above and search for it there. If you have any question then feel free to contact me;

    And on the note of contacting me about books - Hilde Lene of Oslo Norway informs me that "I had a check at amazon.com and they have MOST of the Jane Austen books on CD and audio cassette. Some of them are abridged and some are unabridged. I bought "Pride & Prejudice" and "Sense & Sensibility" on cassettes unabridged, read by an English actress I can't remember the name of.It has to be read in English, wouldn't you agree?" You are quite right, I do agree that they should be read in English. But then I am an English speaker, but like all literature I assume it is best read in the language it is written in by the author - except perhaps Tintin books which seem to be fantastic in French and English. Anyway. Hilde Lene does bring up a good point that for those who enjoy Austen perhaps one of the nicest ways to enjoy really is in the original - which is being read out which is how many people would have first heard her in the nineteenth century. A lovely luxury. All audio books at Amazon can be found under the title - so if you search Pride and Prejudice, the audio book options will also come up.
