Canoe Fatality on Lake Rotoroa - 001
A party of 3 gentlemen, ADAMS,
KEMP, and GILFILLAN were capsized in a gale on
27 May ------ Mr John Gilfillan, of Wanganui, was drowned
--- the other 2 were rescued.

Joseph, aged 8 -- sent to the Industrial School,
Burnham, for 5 years as 3 of his brothers and sisters were
already there.

when the axe used by Bray slipped and struck deceased
on the left foot, inflicting a serious wound. ------
