Canoe Fatality  on Lake Rotoroa  -  001
A party of 3 gentlemen, ADAMS,  KEMP, and GILFILLAN were capsized in a gale on 27 May ------ Mr John Gilfillan, of Wanganui,  was drowned
 --- the other 2 were rescued.

Neglected Children  -  002
MEADE  -  James Joseph,  aged 8  -- sent to the Industrial School,  Burnham,  for 5 years as 3 of his brothers and sisters were already there.

FIELD -  Captain of the barque Henry Buck ------   went overboard while on the way to Sydney  and was drowned.

Missing from the whaling barque  Eliza Adams   are  Robert MARTIN,  his mother from Cape Town and his father a Dane &  MARIANNA  who
is Portuguese from the Western Islands.

Mr Napier Glassford,   Alex Adams was driving a dray  along Oxford tce,  saw a man fall of his buggy ----George Clarke, residing in Oxford tce,   heard the vehicle --- Reginald Foster ----  more  ----

Funeral  -  GLASSFORD - 012
Mr N.G.Glassford--interred yesterday at the Church of England Cemetery ---- about 200 persons -----coffin carried by 6 rowing men on 3 oars -----  more  ---

PROTHEROE  -  Robert, a former mate of the Elizabeth Curle died suddenly last night  -------

Fatality  - DOBBIN  -  014
Charles Dobbin,  at Southbridge,  found on road,  with one  foot in stirrup and reins of horse round his neck ------  an inquest will be held -- an inquest will be
held ---- aged about 38 and leaves a family.

ARMSTRONG -   who was a gardener  to Mr C.Percy Cox  of Mt Somers,  --- leaves a wife and young children  --  an inquest will be held on Wednesday.

NORMAN -  Edmund,  a landscape sketcher  found dead on 2 June -------- went to Burke's Pass -------

DOBBIN  -  Charles,   Catherine Dobbin,  his wife,  and Edward Dobbin,  his son  ------  met his death by injuries from falling from a horse.

LOHSE - Johanne Sophie Christiane,  a teacher,  Riccarton, Christchurch.

Found Dead  -  018
WARD -  Robert, a farmer,  was killed by his dray overturning  on Mt Horrible road  ------

Lyttelton  Accident  -  019
Dragging the harbour for the bodies of missing crewmen  from the barque Syren  ----  not found.

BURN - Mr David, a settler of 30 years, former editor of the New Zealander and then of the Cross, and again of the New Zealander,  died last night.

--- on May 28  deceased was assisting one of his men Henry Bray to cut down some trees when the axe used by Bray slipped and struck deceased
on the left foot, inflicting a serious wound.  ------  deceased died on 11 May --- accidental death  returned ------

PARISH  -  Mrs Parish, of Prebbleton, was driving a trap down Ferry rd, when she met 2 drays coming in the opposite direction, sh tried to pass between them -- -------

Accidents in the Selwyn  -  039
MALTHUS -  of Burhham --  returning in a buggy  from a sale at Mr Woodman's farm --- stuck in the river ---    and
STACE  -  Mr H.  of Springston,  also got into difficulties  driving 2 horses across the river  ------  more ------   both unhurt.
