College Fragments

Introduction
The magical abilities described here were granted to some characters in
the campaign through deep magics. The abilities are intended as
fragments of lost colleges, or magic that may once have been part of
the standard DQ colleges but has been forgotten since ancient days.
The abilities were granted as new knowledge that had to be studied, and
the following rules applied:
- the abilities gained were
considered “unranked”, and
could not be used until they were raised to Rank 0.
- the standard time to do
this was 1 week (+1 per 100 EM or part
thereof) for each of the talents, spells or rituals.
- it was self-training and did
not require a tutor.
- there was no SP cost for
self study.
- the knowledge did not expire
-- if an ability was ranked and then
somehow lost (e.g. creeping senility) it could be restudied and raised
again to Rank 0.
- the abilities were all
unteachable.
- the abilities would be
considered (for that character alone) to
be an extension of their standard College, and subject to the same cast
bonuses and restrictions.
- this made more sense for
some of the fragments than for others,
but it was done this way for simplicity.
