Where on earth is Island Bay?

Let me take you on a journey of discovery and you will see exactly where Island Bay is in this wonderful world we share.

Can you see approximately where you are in this view of the world with Wellington at the centre?

This is an enlargement of New Zealand to assist those with tired eyes. As you can see, New Zealand is made up of two main islands, the North Island and the South Island. We are headed for a spot at the bottom of the North Island.

We are getting closer and as you can see, Wellington is a harbour city.
There is a regular ferry service that provides a road and rail link between the North and South Island.
The journey takes approx. 3 hours and there are 3 ferry's that ply back and forth carrying people, cars and rail freight.

As we take a closer look at Wellington you will see that the Capital has been built on the hills surrounding the harbour that is almost land locked. Much of the central city area is built on land that has been reclaimed. The island near the middle of the harbour has been put to a number of uses in the past. In recent years it was used as a quarantine station. In a country who's economy is dependant on agriculture, there are of necessity, strict regulations governing the import of animal and plant matter. Today the island has been set aside as a reserve. An indication of the lack of pollution in the waters around Wellington are the pods of dolphins that are regular visitors and the occasional family of Orca that visit the inner harbour.
