Some people know how to take advantage of spectacular views. As in many places around Wellington, houses perched on the side of the hill are not unusual in Island Bay. This is one of the new ones under construction.

The spire of St. Francis de Sales church dominates the skyline in the valley of Island Bay. Built to resemble the prow of a ship, it acknowledges the history of Island Bay as a safe harbour for fisherman and their families. |

The band rotunda was built in 1930 as a war memorial. It is still used occasionally especially during the annual Island Bay Festival. |
